Chief Executive Officer
Mike Reeves co-founded Rubicon in 2015. He is focused on leading organic and acquisition-driven growth, building an extraordinary, high-integrity team and delivering superior value for customers, employees and investors.
He is a high-energy, entrepreneurial executive with over 20 years of domestic and international leadership experience within the public and private upstream oilfield product and service organization. After graduating from Imperial College London with an engineering degree in 1994, Mike started his oilfield career as a wellsite MWD/LWD/DD engineer.
The first 16 years of his career were split between Schlumberger and NOV, leading progressively larger businesses while living and working in the Middle East, Europe and North America. In the years since, Mike has led various private equity-backed businesses, including serving as the CEO of XACT Downhole Telemetry and Varel International Energy Services. Mike is married, lives in Houston and is an avid runner and triathlete.
Chief Financial Officer
John Griggs is the Chief Financial Officer and co-founder of Rubicon. In this capacity, he oversees the company’s accounting, treasury/finance, tax, risk management, and corporate development functions and is also intimately involved in the establishment of high-level strategic plans and overall company leadership.
Prior to founding Rubicon, John was a partner at CSL Capital Management, an energy private equity firm. He joined CSL to assist in raising a $300mm Fund I and to lead the Houston office. While at CSL John sponsored investments in and served on the board of several oilfield services companies. Before CSL, John co-managed the energy portfolio for the direct capital arm of the D.E Shaw Group where he sourced, executed, and managed private debt and equity investments in middle market energy companies, with a particular focus on energy services and equipment, midstream and downstream companies.
Before joining D.E. Shaw in 2005, John was an investment banker for several years at Simmons & Company International, and also held positions at Campus Pipeline and Southwest Bank of Texas. John holds a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar. When he’s not in the office, John spends as much time as he can with his wife, four kids and trusted yellow lab, usually in the outdoors and more often than not in some sort of hunting blind or fishing boat with an indifference to whether the objective is big game or birds or freshwater or salt.
Chief Commercial Officer
Jayme Sperring co-leads the investment activities and executive management within Rubicon, as well as guiding all sales execution, product line strategy, and the delivery of strategic marketing and business development within the enterprise.
Jayme is an innovative business leader with demonstrated success in direct sales, executive management, business development, strategic planning, M&A, and global marketing communications. Jayme spent the majority of his 13-year professional career with National Oilwell Varco, serving in various commercial leadership roles across multiple business lines such as rig equipment, downhole drilling, completions, and intervention technologies. Following NOV, Jayme spent 2012-2015 as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Scientific Drilling International, before joining Rubicon in July 2015.
He holds two degrees in Business Management and Economics from Rice University and is active in the Houston oil & gas communities as well as on various boards within non-profit organizations in Texas. Jayme is married with two children and is an outdoor enthusiast with a passion for fishing and hunting.
Chief Operating Officer
Scott Watson co-leads the investment activities and executive management within Rubicon, and also guides the operational strategy and execution of the enterprise.
Scott is a performance-driven executive with nearly 30 years of engineering and operational experience in the oil & gas service industry. Scott spent the majority of his career with Scientific Drilling, holding various engineering, sales and operational leadership roles in both the domestic and international markets. Prior to joining Rubicon, Scott was Executive Vice President of Operations for SDI, assisting in growing the company into the largest privately held directional drilling service provider in the business.
Scott is a professional and accomplished communicator with a motivational management style, and a reputation for promoting internal and external relationships-both by instilling customer confidence, and building highly effective cross-disciplinary teams in the domestic and international markets.
Scott studied mechanical engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and holds a degree in Math and Science. He and his wife have two daughters. In his free time, Scott enjoys embarking on exciting hunting and fishing adventures.
Chief Production Officer
Richard Rodriguez is responsible for the development and guidance of the global manufacturing and supply chain strategies for Rubicon.
As a member of the executive management team, he also co-leads the company’s investment activities. Richard is a dynamic and driven business leader with proven success in lean manufacturing, executive management, business integration, systems implementation, strategic planning, supply chain innovation, and M&A. Richard was the director of manufacturing and supply chain for the downhole division of National Oilwell Varco where he successfully managed growth within facilities in North and South America, Dubai, Singapore and other regions.
Prior to joining Rubicon, Richard operated a successful consulting company assisting private equity companies in evaluating and improving portfolio companies as they navigated through strategic growth, acquisitive integration, and overall increases in enterprise value. Richard resides in Houston, where he enjoys various athletic and outdoor activities.
Vice President, Human Resources
Cory Roclawski leads the development of Rubicon’s people strategy as well as building organizational capability and employee culture to further enable Rubicon’s growth.
Cory has 15 years’ experience in human resources and organizational development. Much of her career was spent with Precision Castparts Corporation, serving in various roles. Cory also led the human resources team for global manufacturing and worked in an executive compensation role at Exterran Corporation. She joined Rubicon in May of 2016.
Cory holds a BSBA degree from Miami University and an MBA from Baldwin Wallace University. Cory also has her Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) and Global Professional Human Resources (GPHR) certifications.
Cory is married with two children.
Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary
Sue Kean is the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Rubicon. As a member of the executive management team of Rubicon, she leads the Legal and Ethics & Compliance functions at Rubicon. Sue has served in legal executive roles, both as general counsel and chief compliance officer, in four public companies and has more than 30 years legal and compliance experience advising both private and public multi-national corporations in the energy service, EPC, manufacturing, and marine industries.
Over her career, she has led several significant acquisition integration projects and is a key leader at Rubicon in the corporate integration initiatives. Sue is an ardent believer in the importance of corporate culture and is highly focused on continuing to build upon the strong culture of ethics and compliance at Rubicon.
She is the current co-chair of United Way Women’s Initiative and has served on United Way Campaign Leadership teams for the last six years. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the San Jacinto Girl Scout Council.
Sue has a degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. She is married with two daughters and one grandson. She has a passion for art and design and is an avid travel enthusiast.
Vice President of Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (QHSSE)
Matthew Eales serves as Vice President of Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (QHSSE) for Rubicon. He is responsible for leading QHSSE strategic planning and implementation toward continuously improving employee safety, environmental protection and product and service quality experiences for Rubicon customers.
Previously, Matthew served as Director of EH&S for American Energy Partners and its affiliates throughout the US as well as Director of EH&S for Chesapeake Energy’s ‘Chesapeake Oilfield Services’ vertically-integrated service division. Prior to his work with Chesapeake, he held a number of positions within Schlumberger including global HSE for REDA Pump, artificial lift. In addition, Matthew served as Vice President of QHSE for Smith Services and Smith Bits groups where he implemented a standardized QHSE management system in Smith’s manufacturing and oil field service environments, a key factor in consistent and sustainable improvement of QHSE key performance indicators.
Other positions within Schlumberger included manager of Schlumberger Limited’s North and South America environmental compliance, supporting all divisions and services.
Matthew actively served for several years on the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers Safety Committee, headquartered in London, and played a key role in the development of several guidance documents with other international industry peers. He also served on standards committees for the American Petroleum Institute.
Matthew holds a masters of science degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Kansas.
