John was a managing director at the energy private equity firm CSL Capital Management from 2011 through 2014. He joined CSL to assist in raising a $330mm fund and to open the Houston office.
While at CSL John sponsored investment in and served on the board of directors of several oilfield services companies, including a subsea services provider, an oilfield tubular products manufacturer, a pad-centric production services and rental equipment company, and a solids control services provider. Prior to joining CSL, he co-managed the energy portfolio for the direct capital arm of the D.E Shaw Group where he sourced, executed, and managed private debt and private equity investments in start-up and middle market energy companies, with a particular focus on energy services and equipment, midstream and downstream companies.
Before joining D.E. Shaw in 2005, John worked six years in the corporate finance department of Simmons & Company International, and held positions at Campus Pipeline and Southwest Bank of Texas. John holds a B.A from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.B.A from the Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar. When not in the office, John enjoys cherishing every moment with his wife and four young children, while mixing in time to chase North American big game with his bow, and hunt ducks with his yellow Labrador.
